a5c7b9f00b Hacker/arcade owner Kevin Flynn is desperate to prove that the hottest video games from ENCOM were stolen from him by a former co-worker, who is now a senior executive there. However, Flynn's efforts are made fruitless by ENCOM's Big Brother, the megalomaniacal Master Control Program. One night, the MCP catches Flynn in an attempted hack and pulls him into the virtual world. Flynn finds that the MCP is making life in the virtual world just as, if not more, miserablein the real world. Flynn's only hope is to find Tron, a heroic independent system security program, and help him destroy the MCP to bring order to both worlds.
Computer hacker Kevin Flynn is a former employee of the software corporation ENCOM, now running an arcade. Flynn has been trying to find proof that five video games he created were stolen by ENCOM's senior executive Ed Dillinger. In response, he is split into molecules by a digital laser and transported into ENCOM's computer. In this computer, a megalomaniacal program called Master Control dominates the digital world like a dictator. Flynn who programmed a number of features of the environment he got into, teams up with a bookkeeping program and his girlfriend, and together they try to replace Master Control with Tron. Tron is a heroic security program who monitors communications between the Master Control Program and the real world.
Although I'm sure to many people it seems dated by today's<br/><br/>special effect standards, this movie blew me awaya kid<br/><br/>and still looks sharp and colorful today. The neon futuristic<br/><br/>colors inside the computer world aretrippythey come;<br/><br/>and even if the acting is not "brilliant" it's certainly more<br/><br/>than qualified to tell a story which is ultimately the age old<br/><br/>battle of good versus evil. These days PG movies which don't<br/><br/>feature animated characters or cute animals seem few and far<br/><br/>between, but "Tron" harkens back to an age when a good film<br/><br/>could be made for all audiences without insulting the intellect<br/><br/>of anyone attending. I'm proud to call this one of the ten<br/><br/>best movies I've ever seen.
Brilliant work of extraordinary art. The effects are stunningly beautiful; if they look cheesy bear in mind that they are supposed to be inside a computer, it's supposed to look more cartoony than "real". The writing manages to tie together three themes seamlessly: the "Action/Adventure Movie" theme, the "Big Evil Business" theme, and the "Computer Geek/Unix OS" theme. One single character, for instance, is the tyrannical ruler, the evil, greedy business executive, and the OS kernel all in one individual. Another is the wise mentor, the oppressed employee who started the company in his garage, and the I/O driver module. Yet another is the mischievious-but-lovable scoundrel, the oppressed hacker, and the "User". This movie really shows me how I can think of my Linux boxa model of human society. In a way, they're just two different machines trying to form some kind of order with the tools and individuals they have. A computer OS is a miniature version of a business, which is in turn a miniature version of a government. Very cool, makes you think, if you're a geek like me :)
A sympathetic but slightly clumsy rewrite of The Wizard of Oz, with a whizkid programmer (Bridges) trapped inside a computer world. The film boasts some impressive computer-generated animation, but for all its inventiveness, Tron never reaches a level of excitement commensurate with its effects budget.
